Since
they broke into fame, the boy band has made it to the headlines for
different scandals and quirky happenings. Here some of them.
They’re the most famous boy band in the world and enjoy a success
few can brag about. But the One Direction guys have also realized that
fame is not just a pleasure cruise and they have tasted the bitter side
of fame. With scandals galore, One Direction is in the public eye more
than ever before.
A
famous scandal for the One Direction members was when rumors were spread
about the homosexuality of two of its members: Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson.
In July 2012 plenty of websites in both sides of the Atlantic reported a
romantic entangle between Styles and Louis Tomlinson for their very
close friendship. Both shared once a flat in London and were seen often
hanging out together. However, the rumors were dismissed by the band
members and some loyal fans. The facts spoke by themselves, Harry Styles
has a womanizer reputation and Tomlinson has a solid relationship with
his long-standing girlfriend Eleanor Calder.
Another One
Directioner who made it to the tabloid headlines for a scandal was Zayn
Malik. Despite his known commitment to the relationship he has with the
Little Mix member Perrie Edwards, he’s been involved in two cheating
scandals. Malik first cheating scandal appeared on May 2012 after he was
filmed through a hotel spy hole asking a girl to enter to his room.
Zayn Malik’s second scandal broke in late September 2012 after he was
recorded on the phone asking girls to go to his hotel room. According to
a London local newspaper he is heard giving girls fake names to gain
entrance to his suite and trying to set up some action for his friend
Harry as well.
One Direction also
made it to the press in April 2012 when the band was sued in the United
States by a punk band which claimed they used the name first. The
Americans demanded three times the profits made by the Brits, as well as
damages about 1 million dollars. However, despite the allegations and
the seemingly right demand, the legal action was won by the Britons in
part thanks to the powerful hand behind the band management, Simon
Cowell, who suggested that the punk band was trying to make money from
One Direction's success.
In
a more serious scandal around the band broke into the press when fans
started to send hate messages to Liam Payne’s former girlfriend Danielle
Peazer. She was reported to be getting abuse from obsessive One
Direction fans for months and even one fan sent her a death threat.
Before the couple broke up, Liam responded by blocking the fan and
angrily saying he would "take it further" if anything more would happen.
On her side, Danielle wrote on Twitter: "To tweet someone telling them
to 'go die' is disgusting.”
In other
occasions, rather erotic news have been taking the Directioners to the
press covers. In their return to the UK stages for the iTunes festival
at the Roundhouse in Camden (London) in September 2012, the band was
received with an overwhelming and warm welcome when some of their female
fans started to throw their underwear to the stage. A week later, in a
promotional tour in Sweden the youngsters were ‘attacked’ by a group of
fans committed to show them their love and assets. The Britons were
amazed and said to be embarrassed when a group girls ran after their
car, lifted up their tops and pressed their naked breasts up against the
windows.
